Pulmugol was the name of an old village located near the World Cup Main Stadium and was also known as Yadong (冶洞). The name “Pulmugol” is said to originate from the numerous forges in the village during the Joseon Dynasty, where coins were minted, with “pulmu” referring to the bellows used in the blacksmiths’ forges.

Pulmugol was also a clan village: the Dongnae Jeong (東來 鄭) family lived here for over 400 years, while the Hanyang Jo (漢陽 趙) and Jeonju Yi (全州 李) families resided for more than 200 years.

When the World Cup Main Stadium was built in 2002, the village was completely demolished, leaving no trace of the original settlement. To preserve and restore local cultural heritage, a Pulmugol restoration project was launched, establishing facilities such as a blacksmith’s forge near the original village site to symbolize the historic Pulmugol.
